BLK360: Data Download via BLK Data Manager May Fail on Some Windows Computers

Summary

On some Windows computers, downloading data from a BLK360 scanner using BLK Data Manager over USB may fail or produce incomplete datasets.

The issue is related to the graphics adapter used to run BLK Data Manager and has been observed on systems where the application is running on the integrated Intel GPU.

A temporary workaround is available and resolves the issue.

Affected Products

  • BLK Data Manager

  • BLK360 scanners (USB data transfer)

Symptoms

You may experience one or more of the following symptoms when downloading data from a BLK360 scanner:

  • Some scan Setups are downloaded as 0 KB files.

  • Downloaded files are corrupted and cannot be imported.

  • Only a subset of scan Setups is downloaded successfully.

  • The download process completes without reporting an obvious error, but the resulting dataset is incomplete.

Cause

Our investigation indicates that this issue may occur when BLK Data Manager is running on the integrated Intel graphics adapter on certain Windows systems.

The exact behavior depends on the hardware and driver configuration, which is why the issue affects only some computers.

Workaround

Configure BLK Data Manager to always use the dedicated NVIDIA GPU through the NVIDIA Control Panel, following the steps below:

  1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

  2. Navigate to 3D Settings | Manage 3D Settings.

  3. Select the Program Settings tab.

  4. Choose BLK Data Manager from the list of applications.

    • If it is not listed, click Add and browse to the BLK Data Manager executable.

  5. Under Select the preferred graphics processor for this program, choose High-performance NVIDIA processor.

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Restart BLK Data Manager.

  8. Download the data from the BLK360 scanner again.

The download should now complete successfully.

Note: On recent versions of Windows, NVIDIA Control Panel may display a message stating that Windows manages graphics processor selection. However, configuring the preferred GPU for BLK Data Manager through NVIDIA Control Panel has been verified as an effective workaround for this issue.
