Clipping | Section Views

Command Line

  • AutoCAD / BricsCAD: CWSECTION

  • MicroStation: CloudWorx Clip Section

The Section View subcommands allow defining a plane in 3D along a specified coordinate axis, and then hiding the points on one side of that plane, resulting in a cross-section view of the point cloud.

Note: At most, one slice or section view can be active at a time (e.g., a section view in the Y-plane cannot coexist with a section view in the X-plane).

Using the Tool

To create a section view:

  • Using a command line:

  1. Type a command line prompt specific to the preferred CAD system and press ENTER.

  2. Select the clipping plane direction by typing X, Y, or Z, and then press ENTER.

  3. Type POSITIVE or NEGATIVE to clip the points above or below the plane respectively, and then press ENTER. On the drawing, a temporary rectangle, representing the clipping, appears and follows the cursor. Perpendicular lines on the corners of the rectangle represent the direction in which points remain visible.

  4. Move the clipping plane to the desired position and click with your mouse or enter coordinates for the slice position at the command line and press ENTER. The defined section of the point cloud is hidden from view.

  • Using the Section View buttons:

  1. Expand the Clipping panel options to see the Section View buttons and select the needed button, depending on the axis and direction for clipping points.

  1. Move the clipping plane to the desired position and click with your mouse or enter coordinates for the slice position at the command line and press ENTER. The defined section of the point cloud is hidden from view.

To turn on or off any clipping record, use the CWCLIPMGR command. To turn off all clipping records of the active clipping group, use the CWCLIPOFF command.
