Define UCS

CmdCreateUCS.svg

This command allows to create a local coordinate system. It is a similar dialog box to the command Geometric Registration, , but here no object is moving. The command allows also editing the position and the aspect of any coordinate system.

Requirements

Without selection, launch the command to create a new coordinate system.

When a coordinate system is selected, the command allows editing (with a double-click, by a right-click and through the menu CoordSys).

A new coordinate system is automatically displayed in the scene. By default, the new coordinate system is initialized at the place of the world coordinate system.

Two creation modes are available:

  • Origin & Angle

  • Use 2 points pick tool to define the origin and X axis

  • Change the origin of the coordinate system with AddPoint.svg (see Define points).

  • Change the Angle of the Main axis. Click on the button Normal1.svg to modify this axis (see Define Normal Direction).

  • Change the Coordinate system aspect

    • The colors and names of the axes

    • The Length scale of the axes

    • Choose to display axes as Arrows or as Lines

  • Origin & 2 Axes

    • Change the origin of the coordinate system with AddPoint.svg (see Define points). You can also use dX, dY and dZ to apply a translation to the X,Y,Z coordinates.

    • Select the axis X, Y or Z corresponding respectively to:

      • The first axis, which is horizontal and corresponds to the cyan color. The orientation you will give to this axis will always be respected. Click on the button Normal1.svg to modify this axis (see Define Normal Direction).

      • The second axis, which is vertical and corresponds to the orange color. The orientation you will give to this axis is respected only if (by chance) it is perpendicular with the first. Otherwise, the software will evaluate the best (nearest) axis corresponding to the direction you enter. Click on the button Normal2.svg to modify this axis.

      • The third axis will be determined automatically to make a direct coordinate system X Y Z.

Notes

  • Origin & Angle mode allows the creation a UCS while keeping Z axis, while Origin & 2 Axes allows to create a UCS with a custom axes.

  • When editing the World Coordinate System, only the aspect can be modified.
