In the software, a metric unit is always attached to a document.
You can set the default unit thanks to Unit Settings. This unit will be automatically applied to new projects (or to former projects without unit).
When you import data, unit may be embedded in the file (this depends on the format): data will be scaled so as to fit your project according to its unit. Otherwise, you have to specify the unit at import.
Obviously, if the file embed the wrong unit, you will have to correct this with the command Resize.
List of known units
You can specify another unit, instead of default one, in many parameters.
Length | Area | Volume | Angle |
|---|---|---|---|
µm mm cm m km µin mil in ft usft yd mi | µm² mm² cm² m² km² µin² mil² in² ft² usft² yd² mi² | µm³ mm³ cm³ m³ km³ µin³ mil³ in³ ft³ usft³ yd³ mi³ l US liquid gallon US dry gallon US liquid barrel US dry barrel US oil barrel | rad ° ' (degree) " (degree) gon % (tangent) |
Units and result accuracy
The chosen unit affects result accuracy. Moreover, in some commands, very low input values could not be taken into account.
In this software, the resolution is 10-5:
Document unit | Resolution |
|---|---|
mm | 10nm |
m | 10μm |
km | 1cm |
ft | 0.00001ft (0.0254in or 3.048μm) |
mi | 0.00001mi (0.6336in or 1.609344cm) |

Globally, large units are not suitable for metrological purposes.
