Sections

Function

The Section View subcommands allow you to define a plane in 3D along a specified coordinate axis, and then hide the points on one side of that plane, so that a cross-section view of the point cloud results.

Note: At most one slice or section view can be active at a time (e.g., a section view in the Y-plane cannot coexist with a section view in the X-plane).

Procedure

To create a section view:

  1. Click on the icon or type cwsection at the CAD command line and press Enter

  2. Select the clipping plane direction by typing x, y, or z, and then press Enter

  3. Type positive or negative to clip the points above or below the plane respectively, and then press Enter. On the drawing, a temporary rectangle representing the clipping appears and follows the cursor. Perpendicular lines on the corners of the rectangle represent the direction in which points remain visible.

  4. Move the clipping plane to the desired position and click with your mouse (or enter coordinates for the slice position at the command line and press Enter). The defined section of the point cloud is hidden from view.

    1. You can use cwclipmgr command to turn on or off any clipping records, or use cwclipoff command to turn off all clipping records of the active clipping group.
