Fly

Function

Fly through allow a user to move through the 3D scene interactively with mouse and keyboard input, providing the appearance of flying.

Procedure

The mouse defines the direction of the view by pressing the left mouse button as you drag around in the direction you want to look. The arrow keys are used to move, without changing the direction of view.

The Up key moves forward, Down moves back, Left moves left, and Right moves right. The page up and page down keys adjust the walk elevation .

The speed of the fly can be adjusted three ways:

  1. The Walk/Fly settings dialog

  2. Holding down the shift key: To decrease the speed by 50%, the user can hold down the shift key while moving. This will reduce the steps per second by 50% temporarily.

  3. Scrolling the middle mouse button: During motion, the user can scroll the middle mouse button to temporarily increase or decrease the speed for the current flight. Each tick of the scroll wheel is 0.5 drawing units in one direction or the other. A forward scroll increases the speed and a backwards scroll decreases the speed.

Press ESC to end the Fly through.

*Note: Perspective mode will be turned on while the fly function is active.
