What’s New

This is a weekly release including rerouting to a new dedicated Reality Cloud Studio subdomain and improvements to the meshing algorithm.

Reality Cloud Studio Subdomain

Reality Cloud Studio now operates on a unique subdomain from other HxDR products at http://realitycloudstudio.hxdr.app/. This change will be largely invisible to end users as all links will be forwarded to the new subdomain automatically ensuring that bookmarked pages and previously shared links remain valid. This change will allow for a more tailored communication and branding experience for Reality Cloud Studio users moving forward.

Mesh Improvements

A series of improvements have been made to the meshing algorithm to address the following cases:

  • Noise resulting from multiple “layers” of points. When multiple scans are registered together, points from multiple scans may be comingled in an area resulting in multiple “layers” of points. This noisy environment can cause issues during meshing as the density of overlapping points will result in a dense network of small surfaces with variable orientations. The projects are also likely to have multiple images available to texture these regions. During texturing, this overly complex surface and multiple images can yield bad mesh results. The Algorithm is now tuned to better handle these situations for a cleaner mesh.

  • Holes resulting from noisy data sets. Some datasets with noisy local normals (ground for example) were meshed using the wrong meshing workflow, where these normals were used to select the triangle orientation. These assets are now handled differently and the holes are no longer present.

  • Stability of mesh generation and texturing of large data sets. The algorithm has been improved to better handle multi-billion, hundred-plus setup data sets.

Improved consistency tool tip messages

The level of detail within tool tip messages has been standardized to ensure that users have consistent guidance across tools informing them of the basic instructions and how to exit the tool. Tool tips can be dismissed immediately and will automatically dismiss after a few seconds. For detailed usage information, please reference the tool’s help pageHelp | Reality Cloud Studio.
