Third-Party File Export

E57

When exporting to E57, two mutually exclusive primary options are available:

  • E57 (as one file)

  • E57 (as separate files)

E57 (as one file)

  • All data is written to a single E57 file.

  • Additional options are available via Export Options, including:

    • Single point cloud (unstructured):

      • One unified point cloud containing all Setups

      • Unstructured, may contain one panoramic image

    • Separate Setups (structured / unstructured):

      • One point cloud per Setup within the same file

      • Tripod-based Setups are exported as structured (with scan grid and panoramas)

      • Unstructured sources (e.g. BLK2GO, LGS, LAS) are exported without a scan grid

E57 (as separate files)

  • One E57 file is created per Setup.

  • Structure depends on the Setup source:

    • Tripod-based scanners → structured (scan grid + panoramas)

    • Unstructured sources → unstructured

  • Mixed data sources are handled automatically per Setup.

Decimation Options

Available decimation options depend on the selected E57 export type:

  • Sub-sampling factor (Setups)

    • Structured exports only

    • Reduces point density while maintaining the scan grid

  • Reduce cloud (single point cloud)

    • Unstructured exports only

    • Reduces point density more uniformly in high-density areas

Notes:

  • Data structure (structured vs. unstructured) is automatically determined by the source data.

  • Structured E57 files are generally larger because they include scan grid information and panoramic images.

  • For many structured Setups, the E57 (as separate files) export option is recommended to avoid very large files.

E57: Compatibility Format

This option normalises the data written to E57 to make the E57 file more compatible with some third-party software (for example, ReCap or Faro Scene).

The user can find the Export structured E57 in compatibility format option under the Export tab in settings. By default, the check box is deselected. See Export Settings for more details.

RCP

The RCP format is an Autodesk format that supports ReCap, AutoCAD, and other Autodesk programs.

Scans can be unified and exported as a single unstructured point cloud colorized with RGB if available or exported as separate scans registered with images.

RCP (Unified)

  • Exports a single unified cloud with color if available.

  • RCP unified does not support images.

  • RCP unified must use a temp folder that can only be on a local drive. 30 GB of free disk space is required for every billion points exported at one time.

RCP (Setups)

  • Exports separate registered scans and images.

Notes:

  • Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS does not support the import of unstructured RCP files.

  • Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS does support the import of structured RCP data.

  • Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS requires a Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS or Cyclone WORKFLOW license to publish to RCP.

  • Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS (BLK Edition) does not require a Cyclone WORKFLOW license to publish to RCP.

PTS

The user can create a single file, containing the final published cloud. It consists of the total number of points in the point cloud, followed by a stream of XYZ coordinates and the intensity value of the points.

Note: This format supports point cloud cleaning. Any points removed with the cleaning tools will not be exported.

PTX

For each point cloud, Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS exports the XYZ coordinates and the intensity value of each point with the associated registration transformation information. The point information is not transformed; the default coordinate system is used with meters and units of measure.

PTG

The user can create a single or multiple file(s) of the registration.

LAS

  • LAS is an unstructured data format. It does not support images or structured data.

  • Structured data exported to LAS will export as unstructured data with the unified Point Cloud version of the Finalized Registration.

SEMA

  • SEMA is an unstructured data format. It does not support images or structured data.

  • Structured data exported to SEMA will export as unstructured data with the unified Point Cloud version of the Finalized Registration.
