Working with Category Manager

With the Category Manager, users can create new categories, edit existing ones, or remove them as necessary.

Creating List Type Category

To create a new category with predefined values, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Category Manager either via the GeoTags tab in the navigation panel or from the Categories section in the GeoTag Properties panel.

  2. Click the button.

  3. In the New Category dialog, enter the category name.
    Provide a meaningful name that reflects the purpose of the category (up to 100 characters).

  1. Select List as the category type to enable predefined values.

  2. Click OK.
    The new category will appear on the list within the Category Manager.

Adding Values to the List Type Category

After creating a new List Type category, follow the steps below to define its values:

  1. Select the newly created category in the Category Manager.

  2. Locate the Category values section.
    It will appear at the bottom of the Category Manager. This section is used to manage the predefined values for List Type categories.

  3. Click the button in the Category Values section to add a new value to the selected category (up to 100 characters).

  1. Click OK, and the new value will appear in the Category values list.

  2. Repeat Steps 3-4 to add as many values as needed. These values will be available for selection when assigning the category to GeoTags.

Assigning Colour to Category Value

To improve readability and visual organisation, the system allows optional assignment of a colour to each category value. Here's how to do it:

  1. In the Category values section, select the value that needs to be customised.

  2. Click the colour palette icon image-20250925-141628.png, and the dialog for colour selection will appear.

  3. Use the palette to select the preferred colour.

  1. Click OK, and the selected colour will be assigned to the category value.

The colour will now be visible next to the value in the Category values list, making it easier to identify and distinguish during project work.

Creating Free Text Category

Free Text categories are useful when predefined values are not practical or when flexibility is required in data entry.

To create a category that allows users to enter custom text values, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Category Manager.

  2. Click the button.

  3. In the New Category dialog that appears, enter the category name.

  4. Select Free Text as the category type to allow manual text input.

  1. Click OK.
    The new category will appear on the list within the Category Manager.

Editing Existing Categories or Category Values

To avoid recreating items from scratch, users can modify an existing category or category value, following the steps below:

  1. Select the category or value you want to change.

  2. Enter the Edit mode using any of the options below:

    • Double-click the selected item

    • Click the Edit icon.

    • Press the F2 key on the keyboard.

  3. Update the name or value as needed.

  4. Press Enter to save the changes.

Changing the Order of Categories and Category Values

To adjust the order of items displayed in the Category Manager, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the category or category value.

  2. Click the Up or Down arrow buttons to change the position of the selected item in the list.

Deleting Categories and Category Values

To remove a category or a category value, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the item to delete.

  2. Click the ➖ icon.

  3. After a confirmation dialog will appear, confirm the action to permanently delete the selected item.

Note: Deleting a category or value is irreversible after clicking OK or Apply in Category Manager and may affect existing GeoTags that use them. Make sure the item is no longer needed before confirming deletion.
